Payroll Services

Payroll Services

Payroll is the one area where a small mistake becomes an immediate penalty. Source deductions are held in trust for CRA, remittance dates are fixed, and the penalty for being late starts at three percent of the amount and climbs from there. We run payroll so that the deductions are right, the money reaches CRA on time and your staff are paid on the day they expect.

Pay runs are prepared from the hours or salaries you approve, with CPP, EI and income tax calculated against current TD1 amounts, vacation accrued and statutory holiday pay handled to BC employment standards. Net pay goes out by direct deposit and every employee gets a pay statement.

Pay Runs & Direct Deposit

Weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly or monthly runs prepared for your approval, with pay statements issued to every employee.

Source Deductions

CPP, EI and income tax remitted to CRA by your assigned due date, with the remittance schedule tracked against your pay calendar.

T4s, T4As & T5s

Year-end slips prepared and distributed in February, with the summary filed at the same time and totals reconciled to the year’s remittances.

ROEs & WorkSafeBC

Records of employment filed through ROE Web the week someone leaves, and assessable earnings reported to WorkSafeBC each quarter.

Employees, Contractors and Getting It Right

Calling someone a contractor does not make them one. CRA looks at control, ownership of tools, chance of profit, risk of loss and how integrated the person is with your business — and if it decides a contractor was really an employee, the employer is assessed for both halves of CPP and EI plus penalties and interest, often for several years at once.

We review the arrangements you have in place before they become a problem, and where a worker genuinely is a contractor we make sure the paperwork and the payment records support that position. Where they are not, it is far cheaper to move them onto payroll now than to be reassessed later.

Payroll Services: your questions answered

For most small employers, by the fifteenth day of the month following the month you paid your employees. Larger payrolls are assigned an accelerated schedule with more frequent due dates. CRA sets your frequency and we track it.

Within five calendar days of the end of the pay period in which the interruption of earnings occurred, which is the deadline for electronic filing. Tell us the same week and it is done.

Yes, calculated to BC employment standards, including averaging for staff with variable hours. Vacation is accrued on the books rather than being an unpleasant surprise when someone takes leave.

Yes. We import year-to-date figures for each employee so the T4s at year-end reflect the full year, not just the part we ran, and reconcile the year’s remittances to what has actually been paid.

We calculate what is owed, get it remitted to stop the interest, and where the circumstances support it apply for relief from the penalty. Then we set the schedule up so it does not happen again.
